New book by local artisan chocolatier and local writer is a sweet exploration of thirteen scrumptious morsels that combine friendship and chocolate
NASHVILLE – Local artisan chocolatier Bethany Thouin and writer Angela Fox know two things are for certain – women love chocolate and women love their friends. They have united these loves into a unique blend of warmth, insight and celebration with their new book, Chocolate Covered Friendship ($14.99, Oct. 2008).
Thouin, who originally moved to Nashville to pursue her dreams of becoming a songwriter, decided to give that up dream several years ago to follow another love – making chocolate. Whether in her pajamas at home or in the kitchen of her chocolate café, Thouin has spent years perfecting her recipes and creating her signature truffles for famous clients like Faith Hill, Nicole Kidman and Wolfgang Puck. All that time spent working with chocolate has revealed one life constant to Thouin – the importance of friendship. Because of this, Thouin started naming her truffles after women who inspire her.
Thouin sees a strong correlation between friendship and chocolate and each chapter of Chocolate Covered Friendship features an attribute that both share. Chocolate and friendship can sweeten a sour mood, nourish, and inspire. Both can be messy at times and both require patience. Chocolate also brings us together, so in the book Thouin and Fox make chocolate approachable through simple how-to’s after every chapter with everything from purchasing quality chocolate to recipes for Thouin’s Mayan Hot Chocolate and even some of her truffles. Chocolate Covered Friendship is currently available for purchase through Amazon.com and will be officially released on Oct. 9 and will be available wherever books are sold.
Thouin is also developing a new collection of truffles titled, "The Friendship Collection,” which will be packaged in a gift box and will feature each of the signature truffles and attributes they share with her friends that are mentioned in the book.
The truffle collection will be available at Thouin’s new chocolate café opening in Historic Germantown this fall. The Cocoa Tree, located at 1200 5th Ave. North in Nashville, will also include a variety of chocolate confections.
