Creekstone’s first home tests 76 percent more
energy efficient than typical existing home

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Oct. 10, 2008 – Akamai Construction LCC, the sole builder of the new Creekstone neighborhood in Franklin, receives final energy rating on its first home and offers an advanced preview of the community plan and tours of the model home during a neighborhood dedication today at 4 p.m.

In addition to representatives from the energy efficiency and green building programs for which all of Creekstone’s 263 homes will qualify, the dedication ceremony includes officials from the national, state and local levels that support Akamai’s commitment to high performance building practices.

Creekstone’s first home, which serves as the model home, sales center and building sciences and education center, scored a 54 on the E-scale, making it 76 percent more energy efficient than a typical existing home and 46 percent more energy efficient than a typical new construction home.
“Rising energy costs and our country’s dependence on foreign oil has led consumers to demand higher performing homes,” said Akamai Principal Don Shepherd, “In addition to a well-planned neighborhood design, beautiful elevations and quality construction, we wanted offer homes that are as energy efficient as practical.”

Home Energy Concepts, an independent third-party inspection company, conducted the energy rating tests to verify that the model home meets the efficiency, air quality and green building standards for each certification.

Certifications include the ENERGY STAR Qualification and Middle Tennessee Electric’s Green Homes Plus Program. “MTEMC is privileged to work with a high performance builder like Akamai Construction. Creekstone promises to provide not only an attractive development to the area, but more importantly, new homes that are top-notch in energy efficiency for families needing to make the most of their investment for years to come,” Tom Moreland, MTEMC’s residential marketing supervisor.

The E-scale rating also earned the model home a Gold-Level Green Home designation from the NAHB Research Center as part of the National Association of Home Builders.
“On behalf of the NAHB Research Center, we are very pleased that Akamai has made the commitment to their customers to have each home at Creekstone certified by this nationally recognized, highly credible third party verified green home certification program,” said NAHB Research Center’s National Green Certification Program Manager Don Carr.

The home also qualifies for certifications issued by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Builders Challenge Program and the EPA Indoor Air Package Program.

The model home will be open to the public tomorrow, Oct. 11.
