FRANKLIN NEIGHBORHOOD OFFERS HOME 69 PERCENT MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT THAN TYPICAL EXISTING HOMES
Creekstone homes to receive several energy efficiency building program designations

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – July 10, 2008 – Akamai Construction, developer of the Franklin, Tenn.-based Creekstone neighborhood, announced today that preliminary testing on its first model home qualifies it for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Builders Challenge designation.

The Department of Energy recognizes Builders Challenge homes as the best on the market for energy performance, quality, comfort, and health and safety. All Creekstone homes are designed to qualify as Builders Challenge homes.

“We want to build our homes to be as energy efficient as practical, meeting several energy efficiency, air quality and green building programs including the Builders Challenge,” said Akamai Principal Don Shepherd, “Additional designations will be received from ENERGY STAR, the National Association of Home Builder’s Green Building Program and the EPA’s Indoor Air Package.”

Each home in Creekstone will be individually tested and certified by an independent third-party inspection company, Home Energy Concepts, to verify that they meet the efficiency, air quality and green building standards for each of the designations.

“Currently, the only home in Tennessee that has received the DOE’s Builders Challenge designation is Al and Tipper Gore’s Nashville residence,” said David Lyle of Home Energy Concepts.

The model home’s preliminary inspection shows that it is 69 percent more energy efficient than a typical existing home and 39 percent more energy efficient than a typical new construction home. The final inspection will be completed and designations issued once the home is fully constructed in early August.

Akamai is able to construct energy efficient homes through a combination of advanced building techniques, quality construction and materials. These include a building envelope design featuring a ventless insulated crawl space, soybean based foam insulation, insulated roofline, insulating house wrap, advanced 2x6 framing and low-e windows. Air quality and comfort is achieved with a 16 seer HVAC system with a centralized air filtration and purification system, insulated and sealed ducts and low VOC materials including carpet, paint, finishes, caulks and sealants. All of these features contribute to improved home quality, homeowner comfort, lower energy demand and reduced air pollution.

Creekstone sits on 51 acres in Franklin, off of South Royal Oaks and is bordered by Watson Branch Creek. The neighborhood features a total of 263-units, with 113 single-family homes, 42 town homes and 108 condominium homes. Square footage ranges from 1,330 to 4,000+ square feet and homes are priced from the $250,000s to the $700,000s.
